Wilma J. West, 96 formerly of Primrose, NE passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at The Cottages in Papillion, NE.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE with Pastor Mary Avidano Hubert officiating. Burial will follow at Dublin Cemetery, Primrose, NE with a lunch to follow at the Primrose Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Society – Albion, 1222 S. 7th St. Albion, NE 68620 or Primrose Presbyterian Church.

Wilma Jean West, daughter of Roy Lee and Jennie (Lingel) Hunter was born February 9, 1927, on the family farm in Akron, NE. She grew up in the Akron community and attended the Akron Presbyterian church. Wilma attended District 53 through eighth grade and graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1944. Following graduation Wilma attended Wayne State College. Combined with her Normal Training in high school she was able to teach in rural schools. She taught in District 39 and the elementary grades in Primrose.
On May 23, 1949, Wilma was united in marriage to John William West at the Primrose Presbyterian Church. From this union Wilma was blessed with five children. The couple lived and raised their family on the farm until they moved to Albion in 2009. Sadly, John passed away in 2013. Wilma later moved to Omaha in 2022 to be closer to family.
Wilma was a member of the Primrose Presbyterian church where she served as an elder, clerk, teacher and superintendent of Sunday school and summer Bible school. She belonged to the Church Ladies Aid, Starlite, Eager Beaver Extension Club and Happy Hour card club. Wilma also served as secretary and treasurer of Dublin Cemetery as well as maintaining the cemetery for many years with John.
Wilma was proud of her community and loved to give back. She led a 4-H club, taught preschool and taught piano lessons. In 1993 she began volunteer work at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was chosen as the Regional Volunteer of the Good Samaritan Society in 2010. Wilma liked to sew quilts for her family and donated quilts to the Child Saving Institute in Omaha.
Wilma is survived by her five children: Shirley Mackie of Omaha, NE; Larry (Margaret) West of Omaha, NE; Gary (Joan) West of Wayne, NE; Sue (Dave) Barnes of Lynch, NE; Jean (Ryan) Herold of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister: Myrna Krohn of Omaha, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded by her parents; husband: John West; brother: Wes Hunter.
