Thomas W. Mahoney, 85, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at his home in Cedar Rapids, NE.
In consideration of the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, there will be a private family mass held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, NE with Fr. Mark Tomaseiwicz officiating. Interment will be at the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Army Funeral Honor Guard. In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions set by the CDC, a restricted visitation will be Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, NE, from 3-5 p.m. with no more than 10 people allowed in the funeral home at one time. In an effort to keep our community safe, we strongly encourage those feeling ill or who are part of an at-risk population (e.g., the elderly or immune-compromised, etc.) to please stay home.

Thomas W. Mahoney, son of Walter and Frances (Theewen) Mahoney was born on December 27, 1934 at Cedar Rapids, NE. He was baptized at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on January 1, 1935. Tom attended St. Anthony's Catholic School until the 8th grade, then graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1952. Tom started working at the lumber yard in Cedar Rapids, NE. In February of 1956 Tom entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in February of 1958.
Tom lived with his mom on the family farm north of Cedar Rapids, NE. In 1960 Tom returned to working at the lumber yard until 1986, when he started working at Don Rutten's service station. He later worked for Buds Sanitation Service. In 2003 Tom moved into Cedar Rapids, NE.
Tom was a lifetime member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cedar Rapids Volunteer Fire Department, and American Legion Post #44 of Cedar Rapids, NE. Tom enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. He also used to help coach t-ball.
Tom is survived by his siblings: Marjorie "Marge" (Albert) Ogden of Columbus, NE; Jerry (Lois) Mahoney of Lincoln, NE; Mary (Don) Thorberg of Albion, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Mahoney, and sisters-in-law: Nancy Mahoney and Lucy Mahoney.
