Sherry Lynn Vidmar

Sherry Lynn Vidmar (Getzfred) was born on June 8, 1964 in Taos, New Mexico. Daughter of Robert and Carole Getzfred, she lived an adventurous life starting in Loveland, Colorado before moving to San Jose, California and then to Boise, Idaho, where she graduated from Borah High School, class of 1982.

After high school, Sherry moved to the metro Atlanta area near her parents. Sherry worked for Amada Engineering, Levi Straus and Financial Freedom, always finding herself in supervisory positions. She was a hard worker. She was incredibly intelligent and heavily relied upon for her expertise and knowledge with complicated software systems. She was always the person her supervisors relied on to train new employees because she was knowledgeable and because she was incredibly kind, welcoming, charismatic, and patient. She was always favored amongst her coworkers and supervisors. She was always determined to overcome any obstacles, loved a challenge and everything was always fixable. She didn't take herself too seriously and always found humor in almost any situation.

Sherry was not just dedicated to her job. She was even more dedicated to raising her three children, Tawnya, Danny, and Tyler. She enjoyed being a mom and had so much fun with her kids. She put up with watching The Little Mermaid 876 times each weekend. She was so accepting, she allowed her oldest son to wear his cowboy boots with shorts in public. She also made sure that same son didn't leave the house without his Hercules bedsheet, even when it made her late for work. She was so proud of her children. She raised her children instilling her values and beliefs. She taught her children to love unconditionally, to have empathy, to extend grace, to be patient, to be creative, to be loving, kind, accepting, generous, giving and forgiving. She taught us to stick together with family through the storms. She taught us to lean on each other, encourage each other, believe in ourselves, chase our dreams and set goals for ourselves. She taught us not to take things too seriously. She taught us that things were always worth fixing and almost nothing was ever truly broken, which didn't just apply to just our toys. She taught us that mistakes were opportunities for learning. All victories were worth celebrating, no matter how big or how small. She taught us to be strong, to be brave and to be courageous. Our mother was every bit of all of these things. Sherry had a great love for animals. She spoiled every single one of her pets, especially her little pup, Toby. Sherry loved every animal that crossed her path and was known to drag more than a few strays home. No matter where they came from, she loved them all the same.

Sherry was married to Fredric "Fred" T. Vidmar on October 16, 2004. Sherry and Fred shared a deep love and were devoted to one another, honoring the vows they exchanged the day they were wed. Through thick and thin, better or worser, richer or poorer, through sickness and in health. Fred and Sherry resided in Georgia, enjoyed their first date at Stone Mountain Park, were married in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and spent her remaining years in Elgin, Nebraska. Though the seasons changed and the years went by, the two of them never left the other's side. Together, they shared many memories that will be cherished forever and the love Fred has for her will never die. One of the most beautiful roles I have ever seen my mom step into was the role of "Grandma". Sherry has seven grandchildren, two grandsons and five granddaughters. She loved and adored every one of them. Her smile would light up the sky when she was with them. Even the tone in her voice would change and it was like watching my mom rewind her age 50 years as she played with them. She always soaked up every minute she had with her grandkids. She also shared her birthday with one of her granddaughters.

Sherry Vidmar grew her angel wings on November 11, 2022 in Elgin, Nebraska. Sherry will not be remembered for the way she passed but by the way she lived. Our mother was full of love and had the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known. She was fun, she was witty, she was quirky, bubbly, she was strong, she was brave and she was tough. Truly a force to be reckoned with. She had such a great sense of humor. She stood her ground when she needed to, she protected and defended her children. She was full of excitement and adventure. She loved hard and she loved big. She is deeply and sorely missed by all that loved her. Every memory will be held in our hearts and will be loved and cherished until the end of time.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Fred Vidmar (Elgin, NE), her parents, Robert and Carole Getzfred (Elgin, NE), her sons Tyler "Joben" Smith and Robert Daniel "Danny" Smith (Tiffany) (Loganville, GA), her daughter and son-in-law Tawnya and Brian Clouston (Ball Ground, GA), her grandchildren Trevor-Lawrence Smith (Braselton, GA), Brandon, Cheyenne, Kayleigh, Ava, Aubrey and Parker Clouston, siblings, nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

A celebration of her life will take place in Spring in Georgia in May of 2023. Mom, you are so greatly, deeply loved and missed. We will honor you, remember you and always hope to make you proud. We will speak your name forever and always share stories about the memories you gave us. We will do our best to instill the same values in our children that you instilled in us. You will forever live in our hearts and we will never let the memory of the sound of your voice, your beautiful smile or your precious sound of laughter fade away. We love you, Mom. "See ya Monday!"

"Your wings were ready but our hearts were not."
