Ruth C. Choat, 100, of Omaha, formerly of St. Edward and Columbus, NE, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE with Rev. Mary Frohs officiating and Cynthia Kraus and Kim Schaefer providing music. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE.
Ruth Charlotte Choat, the daughter of Clarence and JoHannah (Christensen) Peterson was born May 18, 1919 on a farm north of Boone, Nebraska.
She was baptized at Bradish by Reverend Aton Lundeen on May 13, 1931. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion on May 30, 1937 by Reverend Beckman. She attended Voorhees Valley District 12 School and Albion High School.
On August 24, 1938, Ruth and Elmer Choat were united in marriage at the Methodist Parsonage in Grand Island, Nebraska. They lived and farmed in the Voorhees Valley community until Elmer's death November 21, 1987. Ruth moved to Columbus in March, 1989 and to Omaha in April, 2012.
Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the ladies church groups. She was on the school board at District 12 for many years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by son Norman (Phyllis) Choat and daughter Judith Maxwell of Omaha, and daughter Jean (Robert) Winters of Lincoln. She had four grandchildren, Tammy Bisaillon, Laurie (Andy) Webb, Eric Choat and Amanda Maxwell, and three great grandchildren, Kaylee Bisaillon, Isabella Webb and Drew Webb. She had many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Janet, husband Elmer, brothers Kenneth, Ivan and Norman Peterson, sisters Pearl Peterson (infant), Ruby Norton, Goldie Eilers, Edith Rojohn, Letha Kruse and Elna Mae Rogers, and great grandson Brayden Bisaillon.
