Russell Arthur Nore's full and vibrant life began on August 9, 1927 in Newman Grove, Nebraska. He was born the second of three sons to Selmer "Sam" and Ella Nore and he grew up on the family farm near Bradish. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Zion Lutheran Church, South Branch. He graduated as Valedictorian from Albion High School in 1945.

As a young man, Russell served in the Navy and earned an associate degree in business from the University of Nebraska. He then returned to Albion to marry his high school sweetheart, Lucille Myers, and work in his grandfather's jewelry store. Rus bought the store in 1953 and named it Nore's Jewelry. Rus's bicycle was parked out front nearly every day for four decades before he sold the store. For as much as he loved goldsmithing and watch and clock repair, he loved his customers even more. He remembered special anniversaries and occasions and made it a point to stock just the right thing for the right person.

Russell and Lucille were blessed with four children: Nano, Amy, Mark and Jill. Rus shared his love of music with his kids and taught them all to sing harmony. He directed them during his long tenure leading the Zion Lutheran Church choir and found many opportunities to sing as a family in the community. His kids recall one winter when an ice storm threatened to cancel Christmas caroling. Their dad would not be deterred. He found everyone a pair of ice skates and brought Christmas cheer door to door.

Rus's delight in making music never dimmed. He sang baritone, played trombone, harmonica and ukulele for whomever would listen, joined barbershop harmony groups in his retirement, and made a joyful noise with even the youngest great-grandkids learning to play uke.

He also passed on to his family a reverence for nature and a sense of adventure. He loved hiking and skiing in the Colorado Rockies, Superstition Mountains, Sierra Nevada, and even the Swiss Alps. From his mid-thirties to his late eighties, he only missed one ski season (due to quadruple bypass surgery). Along the way, he taught his kids, grandkids, church kids and friends to appreciate fresh powder and mountain air. He out-hiked younger family members and hit his last trail at age 91 in the Black Hills with his daughter Amy's family, including his great-grandkids.

Always active and outdoorsy, Rus pursued numerous hobbies that kept him a kid-at-heart his whole life—golfing, biking, sailing, rollerskating ( and rollerblading), sledding, and motorcycle riding. After heart surgery at 89, his doctor advised that he take a temporary break from biking. The doctor failed to mention anything about sledding. When Rus returned to biking, he rode the trails in Lincoln at age 93.

As fun-loving as Russell was, he was equally dedicated to the people in his world. He maintained lifelong friendships, some that began in childhood; he cared for family members as a trustworthy advocate; he visited the Good Samaritan Society almost every day to bring people a smile; he looked out for his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids; and he gladly gave of himself when anyone around him needed an extra measure of kindness.

Russell died on February 26, 2021 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, NE, surrounded by his daughters.

Russell is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Nore; son, Mark Nore; parents, Selmer "Sam" and Ella Nore; and brothers, Donald and Milan Nore.

He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, music and adventure with three generations of grateful family—his children: Nano Nore, Amy Haave (Doug), and Jill Conrad; grandchildren: Josh Haave, Adam Haave (Kate), Joel Lueders (Rachel), Myer Nore (Arhia), Carrie Wilsman (Tony), Megan Haave, Kathryn Nore and Abbie Slater (Wes); and great-grandchildren: Coleman Slater, Avery Wilsman, Courtney Slater, Lucas Haave, Kennedy Slater, Kinley Haave, James Wilsman, and Juliet Wilsman.
