Rosella M. Braun, 84, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Brookestone Acres, Columbus, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Mark Tomasiewicz and Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, NE. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Rosella Marie Braun, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Scherbring) Scholl was born on December 6, 1937 at the family farm east of Petersburg, NE. Rosella was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg and was confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. Rosella attended school through the 8th grade. Starting at District #62 east of Petersburg, followed by one year in Petersburg and finishing at District #39 by Akron. Rosella worked as a waitress and housekeeper prior to her marriage.
On April 7, 1958 Rosella was united in marriage to Eugene C. Braun at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Albion, NE. They were married for 60 years. The couple farmed and raised their 11 children on the Braun family farm 6 ½ miles east of Cedar Rapids until building a house and moving to town in 1999.
Rosella was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society (past president and chair lady). Over the years Rosella was a member of the Happy Hour Club, Garden Club, Pitch Card Club and Fatima Rosary Club. Rosella was Superintendent of the flowers at the Boone County Fair for many years.
Rosella had a passion for flower gardening and enjoyed learning and sharing her love for it with others. As she raised her family she kept busy with gardening, canning, flower gardening, sewing and attending her children's sports and school activities. When time allowed she enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and reading. In the earlier years the couple enjoyed going dancing. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was always grateful for every visit, phone call and card she received.
Rosella is survived by her 11 children: Anthony of Cedar Rapids, NE; William of Columbus, NE; Susan of Bloomington, IL; Charles (Deb) of Cedar Rapids, NE; Leo of Fort Collins, CO; Kenneth (Ann) of Wahoo, NE; Robert (Natalie) of Columbus, NE; Leonard (April) of Friend, NE; Mark (Diane) of Omaha, NE; Cheryl of Omaha, NE; Donald (Abbie) of Hugoton, KS; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters: Janet (Glenn) Magsamen of Columbus, NE; Bonnie Pheigaru of Katy, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene in 2018; brother: Marvin (Darlene) Scholl; sisters: Marcella (Duane) Becker; Eloise Scholl; Dorothy (Maurice) Braun; one infant sister; brothers-in-law: Robert Pheigaru and Donald Strotman.
