Romain "Pic" Krings, 97, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, NE. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 5:00 p.m. wake service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for designation to Pic's choices which are Cedar Rapids Fire and Rescue, Cedar Rapids Senior Center, and the St. Anthony's Catholic Church Endowment Fund.
Romain "Pic" Krings, daughter of Bernard Joseph and Agatha Josephine (Ball) Hartman was born July 12, 1926, at Cedar Rapids, NE. She received the sacrament of baptism and confirmation at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, NE. Pic and her brother had to walk four miles to the country school southwest of Cedar Rapids. She then attended St. Anthony's before going to Cedar Rapids High school to graduate with the class of 1943.
On February 18, 1946, Pic was united in marriage to Paul John Krings at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. From this union, Pic was blessed with five children. The couple lived on the family farm east of Cedar Rapids for five years, before moving to a farm west of Cedar where they raised their family. Pic bartended at the Taverns in Primrose and Cedar Rapids. She also worked at the locker and milked cows on the farm.
Pic was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She was a member of the altar society and served as chairlady. Pic enjoyed playing cards and was a part of the Timber Creek Card Club. She loved to cook, bake and can the produce from Paul's garden. Pic treasured the time she spent with her family and friends and the memories they made.
Pic is survived by her five children: Mary Kay (John) Wlaschin of Columbus, NE; Gary (Leslie) Krings of Greenwood, NE; Larry Krings of Albion, NE; Debbie (Ron) Hillberg of Yankton, SD; Cheryl (Tim) Prothman of David City, NE; 11 grandchildren: Aaron (Rhonda) Wlaschin of Columbus, NE; Allan (Sandy) Wlaschin of Omaha, NE; Trisha (Brent) Smolik of Waverly, NE; Kenneth (Tish) Krings of Olathe, KS; Joseph (Courtney) Krings of Brooklyn, NY; Michael (Lisa) Krings of Lawrence, KS; Trinity Hurrell and Katrina Castenada both of Yankton, SD; Brian (Jennifer) Prothman, Christopher (Shannon) Prothman, and Tanya Prothman all of David City, NE; 21 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Paul Krings in 2006; son-in-law Jerry Hurrell; daughter-in-law Cathy Krings; brothers: Ferdinand Hartman; Bud (Pearline) Hartman; sister Bernadine (Gordan) Ewing; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rose (George) Vandeloop; Clarence (Lillian) Krings; Leona (Frank) Rezanina; Esther (Emil) Krings; and Helen (Joe) Swerzcek.
