Rollen A. Bennett , 91, of Newman Grove, NE passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home, Newman Grove, NE.
In consideration of the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, there will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Madison, NE with Pastor Todd Kollbaum officiating. There will be Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #73 of Newman Grove, NE and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions set by the CDC, a restricted visitation will be Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Levander Funeral Home in Newman Grove, NE, from 3- 5 p.m. with no more than 10 people allowed in the funeral home at one time. In an effort to keep our community safe, we strongly encourage those feeling ill or who are part of an at-risk population (e.g., the elderly or immune-compromised, etc.) to please stay home.

Rollen A. Bennett, son of Guy "Ted" and Alma (Rohrer) Bennett, was born on January 14, 1929 at Winnetoon, NE. He was baptized on May 4, 1929 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Verdigre, NE. He attended school in Madison until 1943, after which he worked to support and raise his younger siblings after his parents had passed.
Rollen entered the United States Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska during the Korean War. He was with the Company "C" 92 nd 1 st Platoon Armed Infantry. Following his discharge, Rollen lived and farmed east of Newman Grove, NE.
On May 29, 1971, Rollen was united in marriage to Gloria Strube at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. The couple were married for 28 years and remained close until Rollen's death. Rollen was a devoted husband and really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; they meant the world to him. He was the director of the Newman Grove Farmers Co-op from 1983-1986 and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE.
He is survived by his step-children, Sherry Ellis, Kevin Strube, Robin (Lynn) Flaugh, and Alesa Melcher; grandchildren, Aaron (Louise) and Adam (Elizabeth) Flaugh, Levi, Averi, Keegan, and Riley Melcher, and Michael Ellis; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Rolley Bennett, Edith Finkral, and Mary Roberg; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rollen was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ted Bennett, Lois Smutney, Arnie Bennett, and Larry Bennett.
