Roger C. Johnson, 81, of Newman Grove, NE died on April 23 rd , 2023 at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE.

A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Shell Creek Cemetery, Newman Grove, NE with Rev. Becky Beckmann officiating.

Levander Funeral Home of Newman Grove, NE is in charge of the arrangements.

Roger Craig Johnson, son of Lowell and Margaret (Stockland) Johnson, was born at home on the family farm north of Newman Grove, NE on January 28, 1942. Roger was baptized and confirmed at Shell Creek Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. As a youth, Roger attended country school eight miles north of Newman Grove. He then attended Newman Grove High School, graduating in 1959. After high school Roger moved to California where he attended business college.

In 1962 Roger moved back to Newman Grove and operated the Newman Grove Well Company with his father. Roger married Jane Stone in 1965 and made their home in Newman Grove. In the mid 1990's Roger moved to Tulia, Texas and started the Tulia Well Company. Roger returned to Newman Grove about 10 years ago and resided here until his death.

Roger was a former private pilot and enjoyed flying small planes. He was a member of the Nebraska Well Drillers Association and was a part of the Lutheran faith. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, playing cards, and following Nebraska football. Roger especially enjoyed having coffee with "the guys" at the bowling alley.

Roger is survived by three children: Jay (Shirley) Johnson of Newman Grove, NE; Glenn Johnson of Lindsay, NE; Karla (Lyle) Bennett of Tilden, NE; eight grandchildren: Mindy (Jorge) Enriquez; Tyler (Mikalah) Johnson; Sarah Johnson; Jayson Johnson; Courtney (Jeremy) Kilberg; Cody (Emma) Bennett; Callista (Chris) Mimick; Caitlin (fiancé Zach Ranslem) Bennett; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Keith (Arliss) Johnson of Amarillo, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
