Robert J. McGuire, 96, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Greeley Care Center, Greeley, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Mark Tomasiewicz, Mgrs. Ralph Steffensmeier, and Fr. Jim Heithoff officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, NE with Military Rites conducted by the Dan Cox American Legion Post #44 of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil with rosary.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids, NE is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert (Bob) John McGuire was born on the family farm in Greeley County on December 27, 1924. He later moved to Cedar Rapids and attended St. Anthony's Grade School and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1943.

Bob served in the Army in 1945 and 1946. He received training in Fort Riley, KS and his Infantry basic training was at Camp Maxey, TX for 17 weeks. He was enroute to the Pacific when the war ended. For a year he was stationed in Hawaii. There he helped separate and process the Japan 442 Combat Team and other veterans from the South Pacific. In November 1946, he was discharged at Camp Beale, CA.

When he returned home, he resumed farming with his father and brother Joe. Later, he and Joe farmed as McGuire Brothers. After Joe's retirement in 1983, he farmed with his sons John and Mark as McGuire Farms.

Bob married Bernice Bohan on August 2, 1954 in Greeley, NE. She was a tireless volunteer for her community and parish. They were a part of a close knit and supportive neighborhood.

Bob was a lifetime member of St. Anthony's Parish, serving on the parish council and as an usher for many years. He also served as past adjutant and was a 60+ year member of Dan Cox American Legion Post #44 and was a past member of the Cedar Rapids Co-op Board. He served on the Enfield School Board as secretary and the St. Anthony's School Board. The Nebraska Cornhuskers and St. Louis Cardinals were his two favorite sports teams, he enjoyed reading and watching westerns, and he was a league bowler for many years.

Left to mourn him are his children: Mary (John) Kilcoin of Taylor, MI; John McGuire of Cedar Rapids, NE; Mark (Mary) McGuire of Greeley, NE; Dennis (Lynne) McGuire of Waukee, IA; seven grandchildren: Sean Kilcoin of New York City, NY; Patrick (Danielle) Kilcoin of Norman, OK; Brigid Kilcoin of Birmingham, MI; Kathleen Kilcoin of Novi, MI; Colm Kilcoin of San Francisco, CA; Rebecca (Andy) Rushenberg and Ben McGuire of Waukee, IA; two great-grandchildren: Emma Kilcoin of Novi, MI and Nora Rushenberg of Waukee, IA; two sisters: Sister Joan Monica McGuire (Peg) of St Catharine, KY; and Winnie Becker of Normandy Park, WA; two nephews; three nieces; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice; infant daughter Emma; his parents Joseph and Emma (Goedicke) McGuire; brother Joseph McGuire; three sisters: Louise McGuire, Leona Micek, and Pauline Braun; brothers-in-law: Elmer Micek, Francis Braun, and Bob Becker.
