Phyllis L. Waymire, 80, of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE.

As per her wishes, she was cremated. There will be a Memorial Visitation 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Levander Funeral Home, Albion, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross.

Levander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Lorraine Waymire was born on September 22, 1944, in Everett, Washington, to Charles Harvey and Rachel (Eagleton) Harvey. She spent her life devoted to family, service, and caring for others.

On February 17, 1964, she was united in marriage to James Waymire in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Together they made their home in several communities, including Primrose, Spalding, and Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.

Phyllis worked as a nurse's aide and later as a newspaper editor, roles that reflected her compassionate nature and love for people and storytelling. She was deeply involved in her community and volunteered her time with the Red Cross as a coordinator, she was instrumental in the public library addition, and with recycling efforts. She also supported youth through Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Piecing Pals club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and caring for animals. She found joy in simple, meaningful moments and was known for her creativity, kindness, and dedication to helping others.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Zentner (George Boesch) of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, Cyndi (Scott) Greger of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, and Cheryl (Duane) Ransdell of Columbus, Nebraska; Jean (Chris) Burge of Albion, NE; her grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; her sister Evelyne Wassili of St. Edward, NE; and other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her childrens father James Waymire; her daughter, Sheila (Waymire) Allen; her son, Allen Waymire; her sister, Karen Taylor; and her brother, Donald Harvey.
