Phyllis E. Riggs, of St. Edward, NE, formerly of Englewood, CO, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in St. Edward, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Edward Public Library.
Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis Elizabeth Riggs, daughter of Clayton and Doris (Spurling) Dawson, was born October 15, 1925 at Carroll, NE. The family moved to St Edward in 1930 where Phyllis' father purchased the newspaper office. Phyllis and her two brothers all worked at various jobs at the newspaper office and even operated the Linotype machine. Phyllis also worked as a lifeguard at the local pool. She attended school in St. Edward, NE, graduating from St. Edward High School in 1943.
Phyllis was united in marriage in 1947 to Charles A. Riggs and they lived in various places including, Council Bluffs, IA; Beatrice, NE; Lincoln, NE; Denver, CO; and Englewood, CO. Phyllis worked as an administration assistant for the Denver Research Group based out of the University of Denver. Following her retirement from the research group she worked as an administrative assistant for South Fellowship Church in Littleton, CO, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Phyllis always joked that she was the world's fastest typist. Throughout her life she enjoyed reading, following the Denver Broncos and liked cop and crime investigation dramas on television. Phyllis loved music of all types especially big band and classical. One of her favorite pastimes was recording music from her vast collection or records and sharing with friends and family. She also volunteered at the Englewood public library, delivering books to shut-ins. She was a member of the Presbyterian faith and later became a member of South Fellowship Church.
Phyllis is survived by her son and daughter in law: David and Mary Riggs of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law: Suzan Riggs of Euless, TX; granddaughter: Audrey Riggs of Seattle, WA; great-grandson: Aiden Riggs of Seattle, WA; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son: Charles "Chas" Riggs Jr.
