Phyllis Y. Michel, 97, of Albion, NE passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE, surrounded by her family as they sang her favorite songs for her journey into heaven.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at United Methodist Church, Albion, NE with Rev. Janet Burgel and Bishop Rodney Michel officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Loretto Methodist Church in Loretto, NE with Eastern Star services concluding the visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Loretto Methodist Church, Good Samaritan Society-Albion (Wolf Home), or the Boone County Health Center.
Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Phyllis Yvonne Michel, daughter of Joesph P. and Senie M. (Peterson) Knott was born in Loretto, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at the Loretto Methodist Church. Phyllis attended grade school at Boone County School District 67, 9 th and 10 th grades at Loretto High School, and graduated from Albion High School in 1939.
On December 6, 1941 Phyllis was united in marriage to Marion (Mike) R. Michel in Grant, NE. The couple lived in Loretto, NE their entire married life and Mike died in 1972. Phyllis cleaned homes and offices and did laundry for many families in the area, before going to work at the Albion Public School as the Ala Carte Lady, retiring in 2002 at the age of 85. She also wrote the Loretto news that was published in the Albion News for many years. Phyllis moved into the Samaritan Estates in 2017 and to the Wolf Home in 2018 where her caregivers affectionately referred to her as "Mama Phyll".
Phyllis was a lifetime member of the Loretto Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary #736, Women's Club, American Home Club, Eastern Star #101, Bridge Club's, and the Young Mother's Club. She loved playing cribbage and taught many of her children and grandchildren how to play. She held all of the offices at one point in all of the organizations. Phyllis was famous for making banana bread for every family in Albion that lost a loved one, even if she didn't know the family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her passion in life was volunteering, giving to others, and dancing.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Rodney of Philadelphia, PA; Janelle (Russ) Deitloff of Omaha, NE; Randall (Judy) of Norfolk, NE; Jill (Brad) Stehly of Boise, ID; daughter-in-law Gini Michel of Story City, IA; son-in-law Rich Moline of Omaha, NE and special niece and nephew Dee Johnson and Greg Brandt who she loved like her own; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Doris Knott of Albion, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, as well as her "special kids" Lucy Morgan and Ron Coakes who so faithfully visited weekly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mike, son Dennis, daughter Janet Moline, daughters-in-law Cathy Michel and Marie Michel, sisters: Irene Bent, Mary Knott, and Betty Miller; brothers: Oliver, Lester, Allen, and Joe Knott.
