Peggy J. Sutton, 71, of St. Edward, NE passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at CHI Health Nebraska Heart in Lincoln, NE.
A Private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church-Rosenborg, rural Lindsay, NE. Following the service, a celebration of life, which will be open to the public will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Centennial Cottages Community Room in St. Edward, NE.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family for use at a later date.
Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Peggy Jean Sutton, daughter of Irving and Betty Eileen (McCarty) Sorensen was born on March 10, 1950 at Columbus, NE. Peggy grew up on a farm northeast of St. Edward, NE and attended school at Platte County School District #62. Peggy then attended St. Edward High School, graduating from there in 1968. Following her graduation Peggy worked as a secretary for the Nebraska Corps of Engineers.
After a whirlwind romance beginning in May of 1971, Peggy was united in marriage to Roger Jack Sutton on June 7, 1971 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church-Rosenborg. The couple lived in Ft. Worth, TX while Jack was in the Air Force. Later they lived in St. Edward; Sidney, NE; Blair, NE; and finally returning to and settling back in St. Edward. Throughout the years Peggy worked for the newspaper offices in St. Edward, Sidney, and Blair. While living in Blair, she was also a secretary for Big Joe of the Big Joe Polka Show. After returning to St. Edward she worked as a medical transcriptionist for 27 years at the medical clinic and as the church secretary for the Methodist Church for many years.
Peggy was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Edward from 1992 to 1994 and was the main organizer of cub scouts in St. Edward in the mid 80's. She was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church until it closed and then became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Edward. Peggy enjoyed playing both board and video games, cards, camping, and going on traveling vacations with no plans but to just explore.
Peggy is survived by her husband Jack Sutton of St. Edward, NE; son: Steve (Angie) Sutton of St. Edward, NE; three grandsons: Ethan (Kelsie) Sutton, Ian Sutton, and Wesley Tate Sutton all of St. Edward, NE; sister: Susan (Bruce) Nissen of St. Edward, NE; two brothers: Tony Sorensen of Arkansas; Vernon Sorensen of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law: Cindy Sorensen of St. Edward, NE; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: John Sorensen; and nephew: Bill Sorensen.
