Patricia "Tricia" A. Auten

Patricia "Tricia" A. Auten, 64, of Cedar Rapids, NE passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, NE. Visitation will be 5:30–8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.

Patricia Ann Auten, the daughter of Bill and Mary (Casper) Doughty, was born on June 1, 1956 at Omaha, NE. She was baptized on February 17, 1957 and confirmed on December 14, 1969 at the Belgrade United Methodist Church. Tricia attended elementary school at Pennical Hill for one year, then attended Belgrade Elementary and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1974. Tricia then attended college at Kearney State College where she earned her teaching degree.

Tricia was united in marriage to Ray Samuel Auten on July 18, 1982 in Belgrade, NE. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids. Tricia worked as a schoolteacher for Cedar Rapids Public Schools until 1996. In 2009 Tricia opened Auten Tots, a daycare that she operated for 10 years, and during which time she cared for over 80 kids.

Tricia was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She loved crafting and making jewelry. She also loved to read a good book, so much so that she would stay up late at night to finish them. Tricia also enjoyed growing flowers and loved to watch them bloom. Her favorites were her yellow roses. Most of all though, Tricia was an amazing grandmother who loved spending as much time as possible with her grandkids.

Tricia is survived by her husband Ray Auten of Cedar Rapids, NE; three children: Rich (Amanda) Auten of Cedar Rapids, NE; Annie Auten of Aurora, NE; Ryan (Adri) Auten of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren: Natalie, Dean, Ella, and Isabella; her parents: Bill and Mary Doughty of Belgrade, NE; three siblings: Pam Doughty of Newman Grove, NE; Debbie Anderson of Yutan, NE; Doug (Linda) Doughty of Cedar Rapids, NE; as well as aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, her many students, daycare children, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Lloyd and Gertrude Doughty; maternal grandparents: Louis and Helen Casper; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Gordon and Mae Auten; as well as aunts and uncles.
