Nancy M. Mcpherson

Nancy Marie McPherson, 94, of Indianapolis, departed this life Friday, May 12, 2023 with Gene, her husband of 70 years at her side.  Nancy was born September 15, 1928 in St. Edward, Nebraska to the late James Irving & Grayce Iola (Larsen) Clark.  She grew up on the Clark family farm in Woodville and attended the Big Cut School and St. Edward High School. Later, she earned her degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska in 1950 where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Nancy was a loving mother and homemaker and later, with Gene, founded McPherson Media, which owned and operated several radio stations in the Midwest.  Throughout her life, wherever she was living, she was dedicated to helping others through her volunteer activities.  She taught Sunday School, arranged church flowers, was a Girl Scout leader and on Girl Scout leadership councils in both Illinois and Indiana, contributed her gardening skills to the Sowers of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and Holliday Park in Indianapolis, volunteered at hospitals, was a Symphoguide with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in the 1970s, trained as a docent at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, and participated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority for over 60 years.

Nancy was energetic, passionate and enthusiastic about new places and challenges. She travelled the globe with Gene and had a special appreciation for experiencing different cultures.  She was an accomplished gardener, a terrific bridge partner and very competitive on a tennis court.  She was happiest, though, making meaningful memories with her beloved family and friends.  On a moment's notice, she was always ready to watch the grandchildren or take off on a new adventure.

Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers, James Clark & Tracy Clark.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene V. McPherson; devoted children, Lynne (Steve) McMahan & Scott (Jan) McPherson; grateful grandchildren, Melissa McMahan, Amanda McMahan, Megan (Ben) McPherson Guthrie and Sarah (Jake) McPherson Whelchel; dear great-grandchildren, Clara, Wyatt, Calvin, Connor & Chase.

A memorial service for Nancy was held on Tuesday, May 16th at 3:00 pm at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Private interment will follow in St. Edward, Nebraska at Evergreen Cemetery on June 2, 2023.
