Mildred M. Jasa, 99, of Albion, NE passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022 at her daughter's home in Lincoln, NE.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE with Pastor Tim Stacy and Pastor Carolann Hopcke officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Mildred Marie Jasa was born March 31, 1923, near Albion, NE to Otto and Therese (Franzen) Haas. Mildred was baptized by Rev. Kiezer and confirmed by Rev. J. H. Beckman at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion NE. In 1936 Mildred moved with her parents to the former Baker farm where she resided until her marriage in 1946. Mildred attended rural school District #25 Boone County for 8 years and graduated from Albion Public High School in 1940. She then attended Wayne State College. Mildred completed Normal Teacher Training in high school and taught in Boone County Schools District 20, 74, and 5 and in Platte County District 47.
In 1946, Mildred was married to Amos C. Jasa on June 18 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Iva Haas, and William Mundschenk at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion NE. Mildred and Amos resided on a farm northwest of St. Edward until Amos's death in 1979 when she moved to Albion.
Mildred was active in many community organizations. She led 4-H clubs for 19 years in Boone County. She was a member of the ABC Extension Club, American Legion Auxiliary and 8/40. She was also a member of ALCW at Zion Lutheran Church where she served on many committees and chairman of groups. Mildred served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years. Mildred and Selma Olson started Vacation Bible School and she served as superintendent of it for many years which was held at District 5. Mildred and Eleanor Choat, and a group of St. Edward ladies, started the Women of the Church organization under the supervision of Rev. Kenneth Franzen. This was an organization for women who were unable to attend the regular afternoon Ladies Aide. This group began the serving of funeral lunches and dinners at Zion Lutheran in Albion. Mildred and Ardith Choat served as chairman for the Centennial Banquet at the church. Mildred also served as an elderly home care worker until January, 2001 when she was injured in a car accident and lost the use of her left arm and hand.
Mildred is survived by six children: Lorene (Steven) Bartos of Lincoln, NE; Corrine Forbes of Wahoo, NE; Charles Jasa of Scottsdale, AZ; Roddy (Lori) Jasa of Omaha, NE; Kenneth (Cheryl) Jasa of St. Edward, NE; and David Jasa of Albion, NE; 11 grandchildren: Scott Forbes; Sean (Kimberly) Forbes; Natalie Jasa; Paula (Greg) Zimmerman; Roddy (Reynah) Jasa; Erica Jasa; Nicholas Jasa; Amber Jasa; Jamos Jasa; Kenna (Tyler) Gray; Wyatt Jasa; nine great-grandchildren: Lukus and Karissa Forbes; Zander Forbes; Conner and Kaia Douthit; Kember Hinkle; Hannah and Alex Zimmerman; Kip Gray; special friends: Colleen Jasa of Omaha, NE and Ardy Choat of St. Edward, NE and many other dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Amos Jasa; sister: Iva (Bill) Mundschenk; son-in-law: Bob Forbes; and great-granddaughter: Avery Zimmerman.
