Michael Alan Laska

Michael "Mike" A. Laska, 62, of St. Edward, NE, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

A restricted visitation will be Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE, from 4-8 p.m. In an effort to keep our community safe, we strongly encourage those feeling ill or who are part of an at-risk population (e.g., the elderly or immune-compromised, etc.) to please stay home. In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions set by the CDC, no more than 10 people will be allowed in at one time. In order to accommodate this, we have extended visitation hours and encourage visitors to come throughout that time. During visitation, social distancing methods of no hugging or hand shaking will be practiced. There will be a private family service with burial to follow at the St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life held for Mike at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Edward Fire and Rescue.

Michael Alan Laska, the son of Sylvester "Sal" and Irene (Drog) Laska, was born on November 19, 1957 at Fullerton, NE. Mike was baptized and confirmed at the St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE. He attended country school at Boone County District 32 through the 4th grade. Mike then attended St. Edward Public School and graduated from there in 1976.

Following his graduation, Mike farmed and lived on the home place until 1991 when he moved to the farm in Nance County where he resided until his death. Mike raised row crops, cows and pigs, as well as raising and caring for bees. Mike's passion in life was hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed trapping for fur, brewing homemade wine, gardening, and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Boone-Nance Cattleman's Association and a lifetime member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Mike is survived by five siblings: Ronald (Marlene) Laska of St. Edward, NE; Katherine (John) Hickey of Omaha, NE; Kenneth (Laura) Laska, Charles (Karen) Laska, and Martin Laska all of St. Edward, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother: John Laska; and nephew: Justin Forinash.
