Melvin L. Griel, 81, of Newman Grove, NE, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE.

Graveside services will be 11:15 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, NE. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Newman Grove, NE.

Melvin L. Griel, son of George and Mildred (Deckert) Griel was born on September 7, 1943, in Newman Grove, NE. He attended school in Newman Grove.

Melvin worked as a brick layer then as a janitor for Bellevue West. He worked there for the next 30+ years until his retirement.

Melvin enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, and western movies. He also enjoyed being outside and going for walks.

Melvin is survived by his three brothers: Wayne Griel of Newman Grove, NE; Joe Griel of Norfolk, NE; George (Arlene) Griel of Superior, NE; sister: Margie Tippery of Columbus, NE; nephews and nieces: Paul (Staci) Griel of Blair, NE; Ken Griel of Omaha, NE; Ron (Danielle) Tippery of Richland, NE; Rita (Kevin) Widhalm of Cornlea, NE; Sharon (Carey) Sander of Columbus, NE; Jason Griel of Norfolk, NE; Lisa (Brian) Sterns of Norfolk, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded by his parents: George and Mildred Griel and sisters-in-law: Janet Griel and Barbara Griel.
