Melvin "Mel" Emmit Dawson, son of Donald and Betty (Brandt) Dawson was born on March 10, 1957, in Albion, NE. He went to country school in the Akron area before attending Albion High School and graduating with the class of 1975. Following graduation Mel worked at Albion Thriftyway and Jim's Body Shop in Fullerton, NE.
On November 11, 1978, Mel was united in marriage to LouAnn Nelson in North Bend, NE. From this union Mel was blessed with three children. The couple lived and raised their children in Albion. Mel worked for Niewohner's managing the hog units until his retirement.
Many would say Mel was one of the hardest working and giving people they knew. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, going to stock car races, spending time with family, coaching youth sports, and listening to Van Halen. He was also willing to stop and talk to anyone who cared to hear his thoughts about sports, family, the weather, dogs, politics, cooking, hogs, beer, and practically any other subject. Mel was a member of the Albion Country Club. He loved tinkering with things and could fix just about anything.
He was an avid sports fan and lifelong Husker fan. The reality of the Cornhuskers finishing with yet another losing record was just too much to bear for Melvin Dawson who decided he had seen enough.
Mel is survived by his wife of 45 years: LouAnn Dawson of Albion, NE; three children: Justin (Melissa) Dawson of Highlands Ranch, CO; Erica (Mike) Andreasen of South Sioux City, NE; Brent (Annie) Dawson of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren: Jax, Tyler, Vivian, Raina, Braylon, and Reese; brothers: Merlin (Michelle) Dawson of Bellwood, NE and Darin Dawson of Albion, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and loyal dog: Bentley.
