Max Atencio, 38 of Spencer, IA, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in St. Edward, NE with Pastor Mick Goc officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
Levander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Maximino Juan Atencio was born January 14, 1984 at Canon City, CO to John Anthony and Cheryl Ann (Estep) Atencio. He moved with his family to St. Edward, NE in 1996 and graduated from St. Edward High School in 2003. After high school, Max worked in the Norfolk area before moving to Colorado where he was employed at a casino. He moved back to Nebraska in 2012.
On September 29, 2012, Max married Katrina Anne Baker at Albion, NE. Max worked as a fabricator at Lindsay Manufacturing from 2012-2015. They moved to Cripple Creek, CO in 2015, where Max worked as a machinery operator at a gold mine. In March of 2022, they moved with their family of five children to Spencer, IA where Max worked in shipping and receiving at Agropur.
Max was a enthusiast when it came to motorcycles; enjoying most any type. He enjoyed learning and most recently had been focused on learning about the stock market and stock trading. But most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Katrina and five children: Aralynn, Roman, Pryce, Angelo and Victoria; his parents Cheryl (Eric) McDowell of Colorado; siblings: Tabitha (Scott) Stuhlmiller of St. Edward, NE; Tony Atencio of Colorado; Chris (Allison) Atencio of South Carolina; Jacob Southern of Colorado; two step-sisters: April (Tim) Lamere of Colorado; Crystal (Don) Pierce of Lincoln; parents-in-law: Leah Baker of Polk and Joseph Baker of St. Edward, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father John Atencio; his brother Brandon Atencio in 2014; his grandparents-in-law: Don and Eileen Baker; and his dog Jaxon.
