Mary L. Zwiener, 88, of Spalding, NE, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Lawrence Vadakkan and Deacon Ron Glaser officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Spalding, NE. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Levander Funeral Home of Spalding, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Louise Zwiener, daughter of Emil and Mary Patricia (Hoffman) Reiter, was born on June 24, 1936, at Chicago, IL. As a youth she attended boarding school in Chicago. Mary met Joseph Zwiener while he was in the military and stationed in the Chicago area. The couple wed on February 2, 1956, in Chicago before moving to Spalding, NE.
Mary worked in the kitchen of Friendship Villa in Spalding and later worked until her retirement as a secretary at Spalding Public for many years. Mary was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding and the American Legion Auxiliary. During her life Mary enjoyed playing cards and especially liked reading. One thing she did not like though was snakes, as she was very afraid of them.
Mary is survived by her children: Jennifer Troxel of Callaway, NE; Daniel (Joyce) Zwiener of Norfolk, NE; Scott (Kim) Zwiener of Valparaiso, NE; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Janet Zwiener of Spalding, NE; Grace Schimonitz of Elise, NE; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons: John Zwiener; Robert Zwiener; son-in-law: Keith Troxel; brother: John (Joan) Oschenrieter; grandson: Julian Zwiener; and granddaughter: Jobeth Troxel.
