Mary Christine Morgan, the daughter of Eugene and Marion (Sjurson) Nygren was born on May 10, 1952 at Humphrey, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, rural St. Edward, NE. Mary attended school at Newman Grove Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1970. She went on to attend Wayne State College, earning a bachelor's degree in teaching Home Economics. While in Wayne she met Mike Morgan at Scotty's Bar. She was pleasantly surprised when she found out that Mike was the owner of the 1968 Chevelle Convertible she had been admiring in the campus parking lot. The rest was history.
Mary and Mike were married on July 7, 1974, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural St. Edward. They lived in Decatur, NE where Mary taught for 4 years, before they moved to Cedar Rapids, NE where Mike took a teaching job. To their surprise they had a full time position for Mary with their Home Economics program. Mary taught Home Economics, Accounting, and later Art at Cedar Rapids High School until retiring in 2002, she continued to substitute and was planning to give that up for this coming school year.
Mary was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, along with the Ladies Aid there. She also belonged to the Piecing Pals Quilt Group, Book/Wine Club, Card Club, Garden Club, Community Club, and Albion Area Art Guild. She volunteered for numerous organizations including the Library Board, the Senior Center Board, scheduling for the Blood Mobiles, and working at the Recycling Center. Mary has also volunteered for numerous projects over the years. She always did so with a warm smile, she never knew a stranger and if she met one it wasn't for long. Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events. She enjoyed teaching them the art of making lefsa, cookies and anything else they wanted to tackle.
Mary is survived by her husband Mike of Cedar Rapids, NE; two daughters: Jill (Jeff) Ferguson of Omaha, NE; Andrea (Richie) Beister of Albion, NE; five grandchildren: Mazie, Carter, and Kassidy Beister; Brody and Brant Ferguson; her four legged friends: Remington, Clifford, and Emmet; brother Jerry (Dorothy) Nygren of York, NE; brothers-in law: Bob and Ed Morgan of Blair, NE; sisters-in-law: Rose (Allen) Hamilton of Denver, CO; Mary Morgan of Buffalo, NY; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Marion Nygren; parents-in-law Raymond and Ruby Morgan, and brother-in-law Joe Morgan.
