Marvin Henry Richards, 96, of Albion, NE, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Bryan Medical Center-East Campus in Lincoln, NE.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, NE with Rev. Brian Ketelsen officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion, NE and Dan Cox American Legion Post #44. A lunch will follow at the Veterans Club in Albion, NE. Visitation will be Monday from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.

Memorials may be given to The Lutheran Hour or the St. Edward Senior Center.

Marvin, son of Henry William Herman and Enora Maud (Briese) Richards was born January 16, 1923 at Albion, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. He attended elementary school at District #42 in Boone County and graduated from Albion High School in 1941.

Marvin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) on April 6, 1945. He was stationed at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune, served in Tientsin (Tianjin) China, and was honorably discharged on August 17, 1946. He was proud of his military service and was a "Lifelong" Marine.

On August 20, 1950 Marvin was united in marriage to Marjorie J. Byerly at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm southwest of Albion, where they farmed and raised their two daughters, Rebecca and Rhonda.

Marvin was a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. He was a former active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE, where he ushered and participated in a men's group.

Marvin served on the Boone County District #42 School Board of Education and was a member of the American Legion Post #162 in Albion. He was politically active, serving on the executive board of the Nebraska School Improvement Association (NSIA) and was a lifelong Republican.

Marvin was a "one-of-a-kind" kind of guy. He loved farming, liked John Deere equipment and Hereford Cattle. He enjoyed dancing and visiting with family and friends. He traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada and toured Mexico and parts of Europe. He loved to drive and look at the countryside. He enjoyed a good pipe.

Marvin is survived by his two daughters Rebecca (Jon) Frandsen of West Hills, CA and Rhonda Richards of Sparks, MD, along with a niece and nephew, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie on May 15, 2010, an infant son, and his brother Duane Richards.
