Martin John Laska, son of Sylvester "Sal" and Irene (Drog) Laska, was born on March 2, 1963, in Fullerton, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, Nebraska. Martin attended St. Edward Public School, graduating with the Class of 1981. He then attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he earned a degree in Agronomy.
Following college, Martin returned home to St. Edward to farm alongside his brothers, helping build and operate Laska Farms. Farming was not only his livelihood but also his passion, and he took great pride in working the land with his family.
Beyond farming, Martin had a deep interest in genealogy, especially his Polish heritage. His passion for family history led him to travel to Poland several times to conduct research and connect with his ancestors. He also had a generous heart and a genuine concern for others. Martin was a dedicated supporter of the Ukrainian people and welcomed several young Ukrainian men to work alongside him on the farm. What began as working relationships became lifelong friendships. He mentored them, cared for them, and loved them as members of his own family. The countless hours spent working cattle, harvesting crops, sharing meals, and laughing together created lasting memories and unbreakable bonds. Martin was a selfless man who consistently placed the needs of others before his own, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Marty is survived by his siblings: Ron (Marlene) Laska of St. Edward, NE; Kathy (John) Hickey of Omaha, NE; Kenny (Laura) Laska of St. Edward, NE; and Charles (Karen) Laska of St. Edward, NE. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as the many young men from other countries whose lives he touched through his friendship, guidance, and unwavering generosity, especially: Roman (Svitlana) Kulbashnyi and their daughter: Nicole; Serhil (Hanna Omursla) Neustroiev; and Victor Sharapovi.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Sylvester "Sal" and Irene Laska; his brothers: John Laska in infancy and Mike Laska; and his nephew: Justin Forinash.
