Dr. Marlee Jean Holmes

Doctor Marlee Jean Holmes of Walnut Creek, CA, formerly of Albion, NE passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 9, 2024.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE with Rev. Carolann Hopcke officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE.

Dr. Marlee Jean (Bentjen) Holmes was born & raised on the farm in Loretto by her parents, Herman and Dolores Bentjen.  She attended Albion Public Schools, and after high school graduation she went on to receive her PHD in Biochemistry, and later her doctorate in Ophthalmology.

She resided in California for many years enjoying life in Walnut Creek California, alongside her very loved horse, Max.  She was active in dressage and won many state titles.

She is survived by one sister, Beverly (Larry) Homolka of Fort Collins, Colorado; her partner of many years Doctor Richard Holmes, four nephews, one niece, and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carol Schafer.
