Mark "Curly" S. Johnson, 69, of Newman Grove, NE passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home in Newman Grove, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE with Deacon Claire Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity – West Cemetery near Newman Grove, NE. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Newman Grove, NE.

Mark "Curly" Steven Johnson, son of Harris Clark and Margaret Ovedia (Stenseth) Johnson, was born on August 20, 1953, in Albert Lea, MN. Curly was baptized at Round Prairie Lutheran Church in Glenville, MN and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Curly attended District #62 in rural Newman Grove thru 7 ^th grade. From 8 ^th – 12 ^th grade he attended Newman Grove Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1972.

After graduation Curly attended Wyoming Technical Institute of Laramie, WY and became an Auto Body Technician in 1975. Curly enjoyed working with his hands and worked various different jobs in his adult life. He was an auto body technician for some time, did construction work and later worked at Lindsay Manufacturing Co.

Curly was a very kindhearted person and put everyone else first. He was the type of guy to give you the shirt off his back. Curly was an avid sports fan, but his favorite season was hunting. He enjoyed being outdoors and was a great shot. If it wasn't hunting season, you could find Curly fishing. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church

Curly is survived by mother: Margaret O. Johnson of Newman Grove, NE; brothers: David C. (Connie) Johnson of Newman Grove, NE; Randy C. (Nancy) Johnson of Columbus, NE; Scott H. Johnson of St. Edward, NE; nephews: Adam (Erica) Johnson of Humphrey, NE; Mitchell (Melissa) Johnson of Newman Grove, NE; Chase (Pascal) Johnson of Columbus, NE; nieces: Jennifer (Tate) Vanicek of Lincoln, NE; Jill (Andrius) Knasas of Columbia, SC; Lynn (Dan) Benzing of Lincoln, NE; Amber (Gabe) Hammer of Pierce, NE; three aunts: Connie (Paul) Hogen of Northwood, IA; Virginia Stenseth and Shirley Stenseth both of Albert Lea, MN; as well as many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; father: Harris C. Johnson in 2015; brother: Kevin "Trapper" H. Johnson in 1980.
