Marilyn J. Cox, 91, of Newman Grove, NE died Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Methodist Church in Newman Grove, NE with Rev. Terry Buol officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Looking Glass Cemetery, rural Newman Grove, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.
Levander Funeral Home of Newman Grove is in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn Jean Cox, daughter of Edwin Reinhart and Lucy Catherine (Martensen) Fittje was born on April 2, 1933, at rural Humphrey, NE. She attended grade school at St. John's Lutheran School, rural Columbus, NE and her first two years of high school at St. Mary's Catholic High School, rural Humphrey, NE. She then finished her high school career at Columbus High School in Columbus.
Marilyn met Robert "Bob" E. Cox at a dance in Columbus and on September 21, 1952, was united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Columbus. For a short time, she worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Columbus. Later on in life she helped her husband with their architectural salvage business and sold crafts that she made.
Throughout her life Marilyn was a member of the Methodist faith. She also was a member of the Methodist Women and many area extension clubs. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and was an avid reader.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Brad (Lori) Cox of Newman Grove, NE; Catherine (Dale) Reeves of Cairo, Egypt; Jim (Esther) Cox of Columbus, NE; Karen (Tom) Crawford of Fremont, NE; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces; nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother: Loren (Arloa) Fittje; two granddaughters; and two grandsons.
