Louis A. Nelson

Louis A. Nelson, 86, of Newman Grove, NE passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at his daughter's home near Scotia, NE.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019 Shell Creek Cemetery near Newman Grove, NE with Rev. Bonnie Brock and Rev. Alice Shomari officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #73 of Newman Grove, NE.  A luncheon will follow at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove, NE.

The family requests no flowers, instead memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Louis Allen Nelson, son of Louis S. and Laura (Nelson) Nelson was born on August 22, 1932 on the family farm east of Newman Grove, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Louis attended rural Madison County Schools and graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1950. On January 20, 1953 Louis entered the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 24, 1954.

On August 8, 1959 Louis was united in marriage to Darolyn Ruth Vavra at the Newman Grove United Methodist Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Newman Grove area, and in 1971 they moved to Louis's grandfathers homestead. They were the third generation of Nelson's that lived there.

Louis was a 50+ year member of the Newman Grove United Methodist Church, as well as a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post #73 and a member of the VFW Post #10035 of Newman Grove, NE. Louis and his grandson Luke had a special bond and shared a love for old John Deere tractors. He loved to spend time with his family, to have a cup of coffee with his friends, and to tell stories about the old days in Newman Grove. He was a big teaser, and loved to joke around with people. Louis also loved to read and he never met a dog or cat that he didn't want to keep and take home.

He is survived by his daughter: Lynette Marisch and husband Jim, of Scotia, NE; one grandson: Luke Marisch and wife Becca of Chapman, NE; his cat Tippy; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two brothers: Eudell and Leland Nelson
