Lonnie R. Cumming

Lonnie R. Cumming, 85, of St. Edward, NE, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 Cloverlodge Care Center, St. Edward, NE.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021 at the United Methodist Church, St. Edward, NE with Rev. Gary Werling and Rev. Brian Ketelsen officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, St. Edward, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.

Miller-Levander Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lonnie Roy Cumming, the son of Roy Glenn and Esther Mathilda (Olson) Cumming was born on February 6, 1936 in Boone County, Nebraska.  He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, rural St. Edward, Nebraska.  Lonnie attended school at Platte County District #40 and #47, then graduated from St. Edward High School in 1953.  He attended Luther College in Wahoo for a short time, then returned home to farm.

On August 8, 1958, Lonnie was united in marriage to Phyllis Emalee Noreen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE.  The couple lived and farmed on the family home place.  Lonnie served on several boards including Salem Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church, St. Ed Pig and Nance County Pig.  Lonnie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Edward.

Lonnie LOVED his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to their events and going on vacations with them and his children.  Lonnie was excellent at talking and could strike up a conversation with anyone, and would proceed to talk your leg off!  Lonnie never met a stranger and he always loved a good joke, and sharing jokes with others.

Lonnie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis of St. Edward, NE; five children: LeAnn Cumming of Columbus, NE; Linda (Dan) Hamling of Albion, NE; Laurie Swett of Omaha, NE; Jan (Hank) Green of Claremore, OK; Brian (Vanessa) Cumming of St. Edward, NE; 11 grandchildren: Aaron (Tiare) Hamling of Albion, NE; Jordan (Michael) Hasenkamp and Tanner Swett of Omaha, NE; Cheyenne Green; Ethan (special friend Adrian Stipe) Green all of Claremore, OK; Alex (Justin) Meyer of Belgrade, NE; Emily (special friend Adam Ball), Evan, Roy, Jean, and Ryan Cumming all of St. Edward, NE; 10 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Esther; sisters: Nana Channer and Janet Cumming; son-in-law Joe Swett; and mother and father-in-law Paul and Alta Noreen
