Leora P. Sullivan, 91 of Petersburg, NE, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, at her daughter's home in Petersburg, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Frank Baumert officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.
Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Leora Pauline Sullivan, daughter of Fred A. and Bertha (Schumacher) Meyer was born July 18, 1933, in Hartington, NE. Leora attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Hartington, NE before graduating from Hartington High School. Following graduation, Leora moved to Omaha and worked for Ray's uncle.
On October 24, 1953, Leora was united in marriage to Raymond P. Sullivan at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, NE. From this union, Leora was blessed with five children. The couple lived in Wayne and Norfolk, NE before settling down in Elgin, NE in 1962. She owned and operated Ray's Superette alongside her husband as well as doing all the bookkeeping.
Leora was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was a part of St. Boniface Christian Mothers, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and Music Ministry. She enjoyed playing cards, grabbing coffee with friends, reading, going to the movies, and spending time with her family.
Leora is survived by her five children: Tim (Charlotte) Sullivan of Harlan, IA; Beth (Pete) Wahlers of Denver, CO; Mary Ives of Denver, CO; Teresa (Bob) Heying of Petersburg, NE; Doug (Nancy) Sullivan of Billings, MT; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Katie (Earl) Gilsdorf of Bellevue, NE; Joyce Kollars of Lincoln, NE; Renae (Ed) Pieters of New Town Square, PA; four brothers: Vernon Meyer of Omaha, NE; Dennis (Charlene) Meyer of Olathe, KS; Dean (Karen) Meyer of Norfolk, NE; Delwin (Lee) Meyer of Fremont, NE; brother-in-law: Gene (Hilda) Sullivan of Sioux Falls, SD; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Raymond in 2005; parents-in-law: Pat and Anna Sullivan; brother-in-law: Orville Kollars; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill and Peggy Jansen; John and Nan McGill; and nephew: Michael Gilsdorf.
