Leoda J. Spiegel, 81 of Albion, NE passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Private Services will be held for Leoda with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE. A video of the services will be available on this page of the website by Thursday, October 15, 2020

Leoda Jean Spiegel, twin daughter of F. Garrett & Velda (Wilson) Courtney, was born on January 5, 1939 in Silverton, OR. She moved with her family to Boone County, NE where she was baptized and later confirmed in the United Methodist Church, Loretto, NE and attended Boone County Schools through the 10 ^th grade.

On April 24, 1955, Leoda was united in marriage to Richard Arlen Spiegel at the United Methodist Church in Loretto. They lived and worked in Nebraska for a couple of years before moving to Portland, OR; Seattle, WA and later Wichita, KS for several years. They returned to Nebraska and settled in Albion where Leoda stayed busy raising their five children: Richard Alan, Randall Wayne, Laura Jean, Lynda Lea and Lynette Sue. As her children grew up, Leoda helped her husband Dick as the bookkeeper at Spiegel Motor Company for many years.

She was a member of the Loretto United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, golfing, bowling, summer trips to Oregon to see family and weekends at the lake. She loved spending time and sharing her Furbies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Leoda is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dick Spiegel of Albion, NE; five children: Rick (Carol) Spiegel of Albion, NE; Randy (Janice) Spiegel of Elkhorn, NE; Laurie (Bill) Majerus of Albion, NE; Lynda (Kevin) Rasmussen of Albion, NE; Lynette (Andrew) Oberdorfer of Neola, IA; 12 grandchildren: Nate (Tracy) Spiegel, Trisha Hudson, Jake Spiegel, Trevor (Lisa) Spiegel, Brooke (Justin) Harrie, Lindsey (Greg) White, Craig (Taylor M.) Majerus, Taylor (Jessica) Majerus, Kurtis Rasmussen, Cody (Sara) Rasmussen, Miranda Oberdorfer and Angeline Oberdorfer; 28 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Eldon (Joan) Courtney of Beaverton, OR; Wylene Smith of Wahoo, NE; Jim (Deb) Courtney of Seaside OR; Dan Courtney of Lapine, OR; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister Leona "Nan" Smalley; brother Larry Courtney; mother-in-law Edna Young; and granddaughter Nicole (Spiegel) Wheeler.
