LaVon M. Glesinger, 86, of Spalding, NE passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul, NE.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2020 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Spalding, NE. In an effort to keep our community safe, we strongly encourage those feeling ill or who are part of an at-risk population (e.g., the elderly or immune-compromised, etc.) to please stay home. In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions set by the CDC, no more than 25 people will be allowed in at one time. During visitation, social distancing methods of no hugging or hand shaking will be practiced. There will be a private family service with burial to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Spalding, NE.

LaVon Mae Glesinger, daughter of George and Fern (Cunningham) Rankin, was born on November 9, 1933 at the Kinnier Farm in Greeley County, NE. She attended elementary school at Leo Valley District 16 country school and then at Spalding Public and graduated from there in 1951. LaVon then attended college at Lindenwood College in Missouri and graduated from Central Radio and Television School in Kansas City.
On October 19, 1957, LaVon was united in marriage to William "Cactus" Glesinger at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE. The couple made their home on the family farm. LaVon was well known for raising chickens for butchering, doing over 1,000 a year for many years.
LaVon loved vacationing, animals, and researching family genealogy. She was affectionately known as the family historian, having collected years of family history and compiling books on the family genealogy. She was involved with the creation of the first Spalding High School Alumni book as well as organizing the annual alumni events. LaVon also provided flowers for the honored classes each year and started the Spalding High School Alumni Scholarship. In 1986, along with the help of Cora Esch and Helen Langer, the created the St. Michael's Catholic Church centennial book. She also had a passion for flowers and was the flower superintendent at the Greeley County Fair. LaVon had a strong faith and was a devoted Catholic, having been baptized into the Catholic church on September 21, 1957. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Anne's Altar Society, Rosedale Leisure Club, and the American Legion Auxillary.
LaVon is survived by her four children: Tim "Sloan" Glesinger, James "C.J." (Karen) Glesinger, Terry George (Alisha) Glesinger, and Nancy Glesinger all of Spalding, NE; nine grandchildren: Joe (Jordane) Glesinger; Kelly (Dan) Dugan; Taylor Glesinger; Mitch Glesinger; Kayla (Cody) Baker; Billy, Andy, Preston, and Barrett Glesinger; two great-grandchildren: Colten and Raelyn Dugan; great-grandchild baby boy Baker due in October; sister: Janet Naughtin of Taylor, NE; brother: Dick (Joan) Rankin of Spalding, NE; sisters-in-law: Kitty Carlin and Lea Rankin both of Spalding, NE; brother-in-law: Ed (Grace) Glesinger of Spalding, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Rosemarie; husband: Cactus; brother: Gene Rankin; sisters-in-law: Rita (Bob) Bishop and Patty Jean (R.P.) Carraher; and brother-in-law: Pete Carlin.
