LaVede R. Wallin

LaVede R. Wallin, 87, of Newman Grove, NE, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Newman Grove, NE with Rev. Becky Beckmann officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newman Grove, NE. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Levander Funeral Home of Newman Grove, NE is in charge of arrangements.

LaVede Rhoda Wallin, daughter of Arthur E. and Ella (Emig) Anderson, was born at Newman Grove, NE on January 21, 1939. She was baptized at Looking Glass Methodist Church in August of 1939 and was later confirmed there as well. LaVede attended school at Newman Grove Public Schools and graduated in 1956 as Valedictorian of her class. During her high school years, LaVede worked at the City Café and following her graduation, worked at the Bank of Newman Grove.

LaVede was united in marriage to Merlin K. Wallin in Fremont, NE on November 17, 1957. The couple lived in Columbus, NE for nine months before moving to their current home north of Newman Grove where they have resided for the past 67 years.

LaVede was raised in the Methodist church and upon her marriage to Merlin, became a member of Rose Hill Evangelical Free Church north of Newman Grove. Upon the closure of Rose Hill, LaVede began attending church at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. Throughout her life LaVede was never idle. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, needlepointing, flowers, crocheting, and Husker volleyball. Every grandchild and great-grandchild received a blanket specially crocheted by her. Her family was the most important thing in her life, and she made sure that no one was ever left out.

She is survived by her husband: Merlin Wallin of Newman Grove, NE; eight children: Brian (Christie) Wallin of Newman Grove, NE; Betty (friend Roger Ehrisman) Nelson of Norfolk, NE; Bonnie Wallin-Kuntz of Otis, CO; Barry (Jane) Wallin of Newman Grove, NE; Barbie (Jay) Nelson of Newman Grove, NE; Brad (Becky) Wallin of Newman Grove, NE; Bridgett (Michael) Hanzel of Tarnov, NE; Bart (Brandi) Wallin of Newman Grove, NE; 28 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

LaVede was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Emil and Dorothy (Bley) Wallin; eight brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law.
