Laura "Popsy" Ada German was born February 17, 1930, to Herman and Anna (Nelson) Mueller in Cedar Rapids NE. Popsy was the youngest of four children. At an early age her brothers started calling her lollipops which was eventually shortened to Popsy. The name stuck with her throughout her life. Popsy and her family moved to Spalding when Herman was appointed the Union Pacific depot agent in Spalding. She attended Spalding High School graduating in 1947.
Being part of a railroad family, Popsy was able to ride the train for free. On Saturdays, she would take the morning train from Spalding to Columbus where she took piano lessons. She'd then ride the afternoon train back home.
Following graduation Popsy attended business school in Lincoln studying bookkeeping. She returned to Spalding and took a job working for Clem Burhman at his implement dealership. This was followed by a long-term career at SE Smith and Son lumber yard in Spalding. When the lumberyard closed, she joined Dick full time at the grocery store.
In 1945 Popsy began dating Richard "Dick" German. From then until Dick's passing, they were always together. They married on April 21, 1955. Popsy joked that it took her ten years to catch him. The raised two children Mike and Lynn as well as every stray dog and cat in the neighborhood. They especially enjoyed visiting with all of the high school students who came to "the store" over lunch.
Dick and Popsy retired in April 1987. They were fixtures at the area track meets cheering on the participants. Their retirement travels took them up and down Main Street at least twice a day as well as to their grandchildren's activities.
In May 2018, Popsy moved to the Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Albion, NE. In August 2019, she moved to the Country House in Lincoln.
Popsy was proceeded in death by her parents; husband: Dick; brother and sister-in-law: Herman Jr. and Helen Mueller; brother: Forrest Mueller; sister: Lottie Mueller; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Annetta and Bob Lee and Donna and Larry Torson.
