Larry J. Buechter, 70 of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home in Cedar Rapids, NE.
There will be a Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, NE with Fr. Mark Tomaseiwicz officiating. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, NE with Military Rites conducted by the Dan Cox American Legion Post #44 Of Cedar Rapids, and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Social distancing and Covid-19 DHM's effective June 1, 2020 will be followed at the service.
Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
Larry Joseph Buechter, the son of Frank and Rozetta (Heitoff) Buechter was born on November 25, 1949 at Cedar Rapids, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, NE. Larry attended elementary school at St. Anthony's Catholic School and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1967. Larry entered the United States Army on December 1, 1967 and served in Vietnam, where he drove heavy equipment and trenched for phone lines. On July 7, 1970 he was honorably discharged.
On August 28, 1971 Larry was united in marriage to Joyce Suzanne Olson at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. Larry farmed, until 1989 when he purchased and started Corner Tire and Lube in Cedar Rapids, NE.
Larry was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE, Dan Cox American Legion Post #44, Cedar Rapids Fire and Rescue Squads, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the St. Anthony's Saturday night choir, and the Highflyers men's softball team. He loved farming, fishing and camping, golfing, and working in his shop making things from wood.
Larry is survived by his wife Joyce of Cedar Rapids, NE; three children: Bryan (Brenda) Buechter of Belgrade, NE; Stacey (Casey) Anderson of Curtis, NE; Kyle (Andrea) Buechter of Cedar Rapids, NE: seven grandchildren: Bailey (fiancé Joe Weibert) Anderson of Terry Town, NE; Justin Anderson of Curtis, NE: Bryce, Breanna, and Brady Buechter of Belgrade, NE; Keagan and Zoey Buechter of Cedar Rapids, NE; two sisters: Mary Bohnert of Omaha, NE; Jozetta (Ed) Curran of St. Louis, MO; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Frank and Rozetta Buechter, and brother Joey.
