Karen Marie Miller, daughter of Robert and Pearl (Fitzsimmons) Martinsen was born on May 9. 1939 on the family farm near Primrose, NE.  She attended school at Boone County School District #22 thru the 8 th grade and graduated from Primrose High School in 1956.  Following high school Karen worked as a telephone operator at Central City and Fullerton.

On July 29, 1961, Karen was united in marriage to Edward Stephen Miller at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton, NE.  The couple lived and raised their family north of Cedar Rapids, while farming the Miller home place west of Primrose.  In 2006 they moved to town.  Karen grew up in a farming and ranching family.  She was very proud of the cattle they raised and would tell her family about driving cattle back and forth from home to the sandhills pasture.  She loved watching her kids and grandkids activities, you could always see her in the stands at basketball games with the program and pencil in handwriting down every foul and point.  Karen loved to raise chickens, grow her garden, can, and cross stitch.  She had her family plucking hundreds of chickens each summer, selling a good portion of them.  She loved her family most of all and they will miss her dearly.

Karen was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, and the Altar Society where she had served as past chair lady.

Karen is survived by her five children: Kim (Dave) Buettner, Sheila Miller, Linda (Doug) Doughty, Mary (Brian) Rutten all of Cedar Rapids, NE; Robert (fiancé Billie) Miller of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren: Shayna (Adam Duerksen) Buettner, Jon Buettner, Sarah (Casey) Schalk, Josh Buettner, Jake Doughty, Tara (Luke) Schmidt, Ashley (Ryan) Freeman, Allyson Rutten, Brook, Peyton, and Blake Miller; seven great-grandchildren: Bronx Freeman, Marysa and Ava Duerksen, Braylee and Presley Buettner; Riggins and Pierce Schalk; three sisters Elaine Boden of Cedar Rapids, NE; Roberta Grady of Washington; Shirley (Arnie) Mahoney of Missouri Valley, IA; brother Jim (Diane) Martinsen of Primrose, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.
