Karen Kunzman, 76 of Albion, NE, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE with Rev. Mary Frohs officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Karen Feye Engelbart Kunzman was born November 1, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Paul and Myrtle (Jelden) Feye. She attended grade school and high school in Milwaukee and graduated from West Division High school in 1960 as captain of the drill team, vice president of drama and speech club, and member of the national honor society. She attended Marquette University for Certified Dental Assistant. Karen was employed by an Oral Surgery office in Milwaukee, WI, until she moved to Nebraska. She then worked for Dr. Sixta in Fremont.
Theodore Engelbart and Karen were married in 1964 in Yankton, SD. To this union, two children were born, Debra and Thad. In 1989 Karen married Anthony (Tony) Kunzman.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, since moving to Albion in 1968. She attended Hastings College for Certified Dietary Manager. Karen was a cook and later Dietary manager at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Albion where she worked for 26 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, fishing, and reading. She also bowled for over 25 years at Fairview Lanes. Karen was chairman for Relay For Life in Albion for 5 years. She was Church Women United and Albion Church Women president, president of History and Art club, a docent at the museum, bingo volunteer, Mission Possible volunteer, past member of the Certified Dietary Managers organization, and meals on wheels volunteer. She also wrote articles about her daily life with some added sass for the Albion News. Tony and Karen received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor award in 2010 and were Boone County fair parade grand marshals. In 2014, Karen received the "Valiant Woman Award" for service to family and community from Church Women United. In 2018 she received the President's award from NEMSA. While living in Milwaukee she was a member of the "Mass Casualty Civil Defense Group", Red Cross Volunteer, USO volunteer, and member of the "Certified Dental Assistants organization".
Karen is survived by her children, Debra (Andy) Von Seggern-Johnson of North Bend; Thad (Shelby) Engelbart of Inez, Texas; Julie (Brian) Rasmussen of Albion; Douglas (Annette) Kunzman of Lincoln; Steve (Colleen) Kunzman of Grand Island; Jane (Craig) Little of Lincoln; brother, Ken (Susan) Feye of Muskego, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Jack (Marion) Kunzman; sister-in-law, JoAnne Kunzman, both of Albion. Grandchildren: Adam (Brandi) Anderson of Beemer; Bryce (Rebeka) Anderson of Broken Bow; Jordan Von Seggern of Wayne; Brittany (Kyle) Noack of Victoria, Texas; Tyler Engelbart of Inez, Texas; Michelle(Brandon ) Moser of Waverly; Leslie (Brian) Carder of Omaha; Gabriella Kunzman of Grand Island; Courtney Kunzman of Grand Island; MacKenzie Kunzman of Grand Island; Brett ( Katie) Little of Lincoln; Trevin Little of Lincoln; Sierra Johnson of Wayne; Stephan (Kaylor) Johnson of Norfolk; Nicole (Casey) Sok of Blair and her 14 great grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Theodore Engelbart, second husband Anthony Kunzman, and brothers and sister of Tony Kunzman, one daughter in-law Mary Kunzman.
