Judith K. Thompson

Judith "Judy" K. Thompson, 84 of St. Edward, NE passed away Friday, August 28, 2026 at Edgewood Healthcare in Columbus, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. Edward Catholic Church with Rev. Matt Gutowski officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Judith Kay Thompson, daughter of Ed and Elizabeth (Bolz) Reardon, was born on July 22, 1942, at St. Edward, NE. As a youth she was baptized and confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church. Judy attended school at St. Edward Public Schools and graduated from there in 1960. She then went on to further her education at Wayne State College, graduating in 1964.

Judy was united in marriage to Gary Thompson on July 10, 1965, at St. Edward Catholic Church. The couple made their home in St. Edward where Judy taught English classes at St. Edward Public Schools. She later transitioned to the position of librarian/media specialist until her retirement around 2004.

Judy was a lifelong member of the St. Edward Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, following Nebraska Husker and Ashland-Greenwood football, and spending time and traveling with her family.

Judy is survived by her husband Gary Thompson of St. Edward, NE; daughter: Amy (Bob) Ruisinger of Bennet, NE; son: Ryan (Amy) Thompson of Ashland, NE; three grandchildren: Riley and Kennedy Ruisinger; Olivia Thompson; sister: Evelyn (Ed) Spellman of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law: Shirley Porter of Casper, WY; Donna Sallach of Albion, NE; Mary Ann Thompson of Franklin, TN; brother-in-law: Roger (Maryann) Thompson of Clay Center, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Lois (Johnny) Strnad; sister-in-law: Mary Louise (Don) Graft; and brothers-in-law: Lyle Porter; Howard Sallach; Carl (Janet) Thompson; Harold (Shirley) Thompson; Les Thompson.
