Josephine Valasek, 96, formerly of Omaha, NE died Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Greeley Care Center in Greeley, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Antony Thekkekara and Fr. Jim Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Spalding, NE. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary with a 7 p.m. wake service. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at the church until service time.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE or St. Cecilia's Cathedral in Omaha, NE.

Josephine Valasek, the daughter of Andrew and Salamea (Stanczyk) Valasek was born on January 12, 1923 at Spalding, NE. She was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose, NE and was confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. Josephine attended elementary school at Leo Valley and Hilltop rural schools and graduated from Spalding Public High School in 1940. She attended College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE where she received her Associates degree in education, University of Nebraska at Omaha where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education, and received her Master's degree in Education from Creighton University.

Josephine had a love for education and retired from teaching in 1991. She taught school at Hilltop Country School and Spalding Public School. She then taught in the Omaha Public School System including Edward Rosewater, Bancroft, and for the last 20 years, worked as a counselor at Omaha Central High School. She was a member of Omaha Retired Teachers Association.

Josephine was an active member of St. Cecilia's Cathedral in Omaha since the 1960's. Josephine volunteered on committees, such as Chrism Mass and Eucharistic Ministry. In 2002, she was awarded "Woman of the Year." She was also a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, NE.

Josephine was a member of Columbia Court 401, the first Catholic Daughter's court in Omaha, since 1962.

She enjoyed following her nieces and nephews adventures, learning about her Polish heritage, and also did volunteer work throughout the greater Omaha area. Josephine was also an avid Creighton and Husker fan.

Josephine survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; Sophie Molczyk, Mary Molczyk, Agnes Valasek, Stella Jacobsen, Katherine Gorzany, Dorothy Arrasmith, Walter Valasek, Andrew Valasek, and various nieces and nephews.
