Joseph D. Voboril, 85 of Albion, NE, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society, Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz and Deacon James Schindel officiating.  Interment will follow St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Primrose, NE with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736, Army Funeral Honor Guard, and the American Legion Riders. There will be a lunch following at the Primrose Community Center. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Levander Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Joseph Donald Voboril was born to Stanley Leonard and Leona Mary (Liss) Voboril on October 3, 1938, at home on the family farm three miles southwest of Primrose, NE.

Joe attended school at Primrose, graduating from Primrose High School in 1956. He worked on the family farm until enlisting in the Army in October of 1959. He spent eight weeks at boot camp in Fort Riley, Kansas and then eight weeks in Fort Knox, Kentucky for tank training. He then served in Friedberg Germany until his honorable discharge on January 16, 1962.

Upon returning to Albion, Joe worked at the Taylor 66 Service Station. He met Mary Merten and they married September 28, 1963 at St. Michael's Church in Albion. Four daughters soon followed this union: Rebecca, Lisa, Natalie and Amber. In 1967, Joe purchased the service station, which became Joe's DX. Joe also took classes in television repair and opened Joe's TV Repair. Joe & Mary attended Ambassador Motel/Hotel training in Gunnison, CO and became licensed in hotel management. Joe was also an active member of the Jaycee Club.

In 1972, the family moved to Columbus for a short time, and Joe was working as an insurance salesman. Upon the unexpected death of his father in 1973, the family returned to the family farm, where Joe and Mary farmed for 39 years. During this time, Joe & Mary were blessed with another daughter, Kassandra. Joe was a very an active parish member at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose and served on the St. Mary's Cemetery Board for over 25 years. He took great pride in caring for the Primrose Cemetery. In 2011 they received the 100-year Pioneer Farm award. During his years farming, Joe also worked for the Country Partners Co-op in Cedar Rapids and Primrose and Torin Manufacturing in Columbus.

In 2012 Joe retired from the farm and he and Mary moved back to Albion. Joe & Mary were blessed with 60 years of marriage, celebrated in 2023 with their family.

Joe enjoyed reminiscing about his younger days and his days in the service and like a true farmer, Joe enjoyed talking all things weather and rain!!

Joe is survived by his wife Mary of Albion, NE; five daughters: Rebecca Hellbusch of North Platte, NE; Lisa Weakland of Lincoln, NE; Natalie (Patrick) Fitzsimmons of St. Edward, NE; Amber (Todd) Wynn of Albion, NE; Kassandra (Todd McCready) Voboril of Albion, NE; blessed with 11 grandchildren: Hannah (Ryan) Walters; Kendra (Tim) Hausmann; Luke (Shauna) Hellbusch; Sean (Kaitlin French) Fitzsimmons; Brad (Brianna Strong) Fitzsimmons; Nathan Fitzsimmons; Miles (Theresa) Wynn; Alec Wynn; Sydney (Brian) Andel; Shianne McCready; Austin McCready; followed by eight great-grandchildren: Lane Talbot; Avy Hellbusch; Grady Hausmann; Evan Hausmann; Quincy Walters; Hazel Walters; Henry Wynn; James Andel; three siblings: Elaine (Marnie) Voboril of Minnetonka, MN; Linda (Gordy) Silver of Colorado Springs, CO; Larry (Linda) Voboril of Hastings, NE; four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Janice (Albert) Ernesti of Lennex, SD; Glen Larsen of Grand Island, NE; Joyce (Alan) Carlson of Columbus, NE; and Jay (Robin) Merten of Aurora, NE; along with many other family and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two sons-in-law: Timothy Hellbusch and Donald Weakland, brother: James Voboril; and two sisters-in-law: Sandra Voboril and Alice Larsen.
