Joan K. Morgan

Joan Kay (Freese) Morgan passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026 at Morning Star Assisted Living Community in Centennial, Colorado. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date with inurnment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE

Joan Kay (Freese) Morgan, eldest child of Hans Julius Freese and Lulu Marguerite (Mills) Freese was born on June 12, 1938 in Albion, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. She graduated from Albion Public High School and then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE.

On June 8, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Gary Douglas Morgan at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE. They lived in Albion and raised two children: Curt and Merridy. Joan began her career working for the US Department of Agriculture in Albion shortly after finishing college. She loved her work and serving her community and thoroughly enjoyed the friendships she made there. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed golf league, bowling league and card club. She loved playing bridge and hosted many card parties at her home.

In 1993 at the age of 55, Joan and Gary retired and made their home in Roxborough, CO. Joan was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending all the flowers and plants on their property. She adored her grandchildren and loved her time with them, especially when they were young. She never sat still so she fit right in with them. Joan was unwavering in her loyalty to her family and friends. She was driven, hardworking and full of spunk and orneriness.

Joan lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment of it. Her boundless energy lit up every room. She had a zest for life that few could ever match. She was truly a ray of sunshine, and her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Joan is survived by her daughter Merridy (Kenny) Jensen of Ogallala, NE; Granddaughter Ally Jensen of Lone Tree, CO; Grandson Ty Jensen of Golden, CO; Sister-in-law Connie Flakus of Aberdeen, SD; nieces Michelle Freese of Albion, NE; Jackie Swift-Kurkjian of Sarasota, FL; Carrie (Marty) Johnson of Ft Pierre, SD; Mandy (Brett) Rezatto of Aberdeen, SD; Devara (Kory) Schafer of Albion, NE; Julie (Dave) Langan of Albion, NE: Jeni Bogenrief of Seward, NE; nephews; Doug (Debbie) Morgan of Albion, NE; Jody (Michelle) Morgan of Cincinnati, OH; Mike (Karen) Flakus of Sioux Falls, SD; Sam (Shana) Flakus of Gregory, SD; Zach (Amy) Flakus of Aberdeen, SD; along with many other relatives and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law Spencer and Maxine Morgan; husband Gary; son Curt Morgan; Grandson Nathan Morgan; Brother, Jack Freese; Sister Janice Wauben; Sister-in-law, Kathy Freese; Brothers-in law, Daniel Morgan; Martin Morgan, Jim Flakus and Bill Wauben.
