Jim J. Vanderloop Jr., 75, of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, NE.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE with military rites conducted at 7:00 p.m. by American Legion Post #44 of Cedar Rapids, NE, Navy Funeral Honor Guard, and the American Legion Riders. A private family service will take place at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.

James “Jim” Joseph Vanderloop Jr., son of James Joseph and Mary Ann (Haun) Vanderloop Sr., was born on June 13, 1950, at Cedar Rapids, NE. He attended school at Cedar Rapids and graduated in 1968.

Following his high school graduation, Jim entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1968-1977. Jim’s military service took him to many places throughout the world including Virginia Beach, Greenland, Greece, and Puerto Rico. Upon his honorable discharge, Jim returned to Cedar Rapids where he farmed with his father. Jim also worked at Lindsay Manufacturing, D&L in Columbus, and was a mail carrier for the post office.

Jim loved riding his motorcycles and was very active in A.B.A.T.E. He held various positions in his local chapter as well as serving as treasurer at the state level. He also enjoyed tinkering on things, operating HAM radios, and running his side business, Jim’s Radio & Electric. Jim was known by many nicknames, “JJ” by his biker friends; “Loop” by his local partying friends; and “Jimmy Joe” by relatives.

Surviving Jim is his son: Jim (Maria) Vanderloop of Rio Rancho, NM; life partner: Diane Odgaard of Cedar Rapids, NE; two granddaughters: Janet Vanderloop and Faith Vanderloop both of Rio Rancho, NM; four siblings: Mary T. (Steve Skillman) Vanderloop of Denton, NE; Gerard (Robin Rhoades) Vanderloop of South Dakota; Elizabeth (Jim) French of Cedar Rapids, NE; Geri (Randy) Jasper of Nixa, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Patricia Vanderloop.
