Jay A. Johnson, 64, of Newman Grove, NE, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Nebraska Medicine UNMC, Omaha, NE.

There will be services at a later date.

Levander Funeral Home of Newman Grove, NE is in charge of the arrangements.

Jay Arthur Johnson, son of Roger and Jane (Stone) Johnson was born on December 24, 1961, along with his twin brother, in Los Angeles, CA. The family moved to Newman Grove where Jay attended school. He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1980. After graduation he started working with his father at Newman Grove Well Company.

Jay worked at various places throughout his life including: Sands Farms, Lindsay Manufacturing, Katana, and Buds Sanitary. He moved to Texas for a time where he married his wife Shirley Galyen on February 2, 2000 at Amarillo, TX. The couple later moved back to Newman Grove where they raised their children.

Jay enjoyed life and found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was a big Husker football fan, and attended many games, along with enjoying all the great music of the past and going to many concerts. Jay was also a collector and has many coins and antiques. You could always find Jay drinking black coffee or a Coca Cola over ice. One of his favorite shows was “Family Guy” because of the history lessons it taught in it’s comical way.

Jay is survived by his wife Shirley of Newman Grove, NE; three children and three grandchildren: Tyler (Mikalah) Johnson and children Lainah, Kash, and Owen of Humphrey, NE: Sarah Johnson and fiancé Jake Hjorth of Norfolk, NE: Jayson Johnson of Newman Grove, NE: twin brother Glenn Johnson of Lindsay, NE; sister Karla (Lyle) Bennett of Tilden, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Roger and Jane.
