Janice Louise Figgner was born on November 24, 1941, in Raeville, Nebraska, to Tony and Louise (Greitens) Fischer. She was baptized and received her First Communion at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE. The family moved to a farm east of Primrose. In 1954 at 13 years old, Janice lost her brother in a farming accident. Janice attended Primrose Public School, graduating in1959. Following graduation, she moved to Omaha and worked at Omaha National Bank
Janice started seeing Richard Figgner, her best friend’s brother, in the fall of 1960. They got engaged on Easter, and married on October 14, 1961, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Primrose. They lived in Primrose for a short time before moving to a farm west of Albion. Janice was a farm wife, and her greatest joy was working along side Richard raising pigs and cattle and raking hay. In 1994 Janice lost Richard in a tragic farm accident. Janice continued living on the farm and continuing her farm work with her son Rick. In 2016 she moved to Albion.
Janice worked as a cook at the café in town along with doing some housekeeping jobs. She then worked at Good Samaritan Society in Albion as a cook for 17 years, where she cared for others through her warm meals and generous spirit.
Janice was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion. She enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. She loved going on gambling trips with her family, vacationing with her brother Vern and wife Pam, spending time outdoors, and staying active on the farm. She also loved to read, bake and make big meals for her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. She would help out by watching her grandchildren when she was younger, and her great grandchildren, even in these later years. She rarely missed school programs, wrestling matches, ballgames, or dance recitals. She always accepted an offer to ride along to check cows or look at the new baby calves.
Janice is survived by her son, Rick (Michele) Figgner of Primrose; her granddaughter, Shalynne (Bryan) Hohnholt of Albion; grandsons: Ryan (Ashton) Figgner of Primrose, NE and Nathan (Hayley) Figgner of Albion, NE; six great-grandchildren: Fischer, Kyla, and Henry Hohnholt; Bristol, Reece, and Ridge Figgner; her brother Lavern (Pam) Fischer of Granbury, TX; sisters-in-law Darlene Fischer of Fairmont, NE; Joan Schalk of Cedar Rapids, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
