Gerald J. Nissen, 91, of Genoa, NE, formerly of Albion, NE, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, NE

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz, Fr. Bill L'Heureux and Deacon Paul Weeder officiating. Interment will be at the parish cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and V.F.W. Post #736 of Albion, NE. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 at the church with a 7 p.m. Wake Service.

Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Joseph Nissen, son of William and Mary (Salber) Nissen was born June 17, 1927 at Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Elgin, NE. Gerald attended elementary at a country school and graduated from Elgin Public High School. He entered the United States Air Force on December 28, 1950 and was stationed at Goose Bay Air Force Base in Canada during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on October 15, 1953.

On November 27, 1954 Gerald was united in marriage to Marilyn E. Francis at St. Michael's Catholic Church Albion, NE. To this union eight children were born, Mark, Bruce, Deborah, Dennis, Annette, Greg, Amy, and Patrick. Gerald farmed east of Albion, as well as worked for area farmers. They lived and raised their family in Albion, NE, Newman Grove, NE, and Genoa, NE.

Gerald was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus where he received his 3 rd Degree, and the American Legion Post #73 of Newman Grove, NE. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching westerns, and watching his grandsons play football.

Gerald is survived by his eight children: Mark (Gena) of Genoa, NE; Bruce (Susan) of St. Edward, NE; Deborah (John) Schueth of Columbus, NE; Dennis (Tammy) of Albion, NE; Annette Nissen (Ron Juracek) of San Antonio, TX; Greg of Monroe, NE; Amy (Gordon) Simonson of Purdum, NE; Patrick (Melissa) of Albion, NE; 12 grandchildren; two great-granchildren; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; brother LaVern (Arlene) Nissen of Petersburg, NE; Dorothy (LeRoy) Belgum of Albion, NE; brothers-in-law: Derald Cheeney of Ten Sleep, WY; sisters-in-law: Blanche Hastings and Beverly Minturn of Genoa, NE; Nola Francis of Omaha, NE; Becky Kretz of Genoa, NE; and Arletta Francis of Albion, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, 2 infant grandsons, sister Marjorie (Eugene) VonBonn, brothers-in-law Bernard Minturn, Ivor "Bud" Francis, Wendell Francis, Richard Francis, and Gene VonBonn and sister-in-law Shirley Cheeney.
