Gerald "Bud" Jerome Ranslem, son of Alvah and JoHanna (Voskamp) Ranslem, Sr. was born on February 26, 1935, on the family farm near Akron, NE. He attended and graduated from Albion Public. Following graduation, Bud did the natural thing and became a farmer like his father. He also followed his heart and joined the National Guard.

Bud was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church. He became the head usher at Zion Lutheran Church. Bud loved spending time with his family, ushering at the church, and browsing the aisles at Bomgaars. His favorite animals were his Hereford cows and his dog: Beans. Bud especially loved spending time with all his great nieces and nephews. Some of his fondest memories were checking on the cows up in the pasture and ultimately getting stuck.
