Gerald "Gerry" Helmuth Hellbusch left this earth on February 8th, 2022. He lived a full life led by kindness, family, and faith. We celebrate his life, with Christian burial, some 82 years after his birth on February 11, 1940.
Gerry was born to Helmuth and Olga (Oltmanns) Hellbusch in Nance County, NE. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids in 1955. He attended school and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1958.
Gerry was united in marriage to Annamaria Boesch on August 19, 1961 in Hutchinson, KS. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids where Gerry worked a majority of his career and retired from the Cedar Valley Co-op. Whether he was driving a truck, out with family, or fighting cancer he was quick to make friends. He never forgot a face, greeting his friends with a smile and a warm conversation.
Gerry had a green thumb, spending much of his free time maintaining the garden and the lawn. He was proud of his faith supporting the St. John's Lutheran church for many years. He served the church as a member of the board and a temporary Sunday school teacher.
Gerry didn't walk through life alone, spending over 60 years married to his loving wife Annamaria. Annie and Gerry were a team, raising three sons and two daughters who gave them 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Gerry loved nothing more than spending time with his immediate and extended families.
Gerry is survived by his wife Annamaria Hellbusch of Cedar Rapids, NE; children: Fred (Kevin) Hellbusch of Omaha, NE; Angie (Mark) Schalk of Albion, NE; Trina (Doug Stuhr) Hellbusch of Albion, NE; Jordan (Jennifer) Hellbusch of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law: Becky Hellbusch of North Platte, NE; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother: Tony (Mary) Hellbusch of Belgrade, NE; sister: Linda (Guy) Brandenburg of Bellwood, NE; and sister-in-law: ReNelda Wenburg of Cozad, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Helmuth Hellbusch; Olga and Guy Mills; son: Tim Hellbusch; and siblings: Jackie Lassek; Gene Hellbusch; and Gordon Hellbusch.
