Gary Alan Karabel

Gary A. Karabel, 64, of Albion, NE passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Levander Funeral Home, Albion, NE with Rev. Carolann Hopcke officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, NE. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Levander Funeral Home.

Gary Alan Karabel, son of Theodore and Wilma (Karmann) Karabel, was born on October 28, 1960 at Albion, NE. He attended school at Albion Public School, graduating from high school in 1979. Following graduation Gary worked as a farm hand for Don Frey.

Gary started a job at Lindsay Corporation and worked there for 39 years until he retired. He was proud of the work that he did. He liked and chose to work the off shifts for most of his career. He liked the quiet and the camaraderie of those shifts. He was a dedicated maintenance employee. In his spare time and as needed, Gary helped his brother Rex with his grave opening business.

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling west to see his extended family. He would often stay with his brother Ross and sister-in-law Deb. He would extend his stay and volunteer to dog sit for them. This was something he always enjoyed. He would spend hours playing fetch with Lizzie.

At family dinners you would see him surrounded by his great nieces and nephews. You would often hear him sharing stories of his youth. There would always be laughter surrounding them. These gatherings were often loud and boisterous. Gary would sit there and smile at the antics of the kids and was always grateful for that time with them. He also shared that he liked to pass the time watching Christmas movies.

Gary is survived by two brothers: Rex Karabel of Albion, NE; Ross (Deb) Karabel of Clarksville, AR; sisters: Leann Ohnemus of David City, NE; and Linda Karabel; numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and one great-great-nephew; along with many cousins; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Larry Karabel.
