Gary G. Ellis, 77 of St. Edward, NE passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in St. Edward, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Crosier Post #226 of St. Edward, US Navy Funeral Honor Team, and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, at the church. Social distancing and current Covid-19 DHM's will be followed at both the visitation and funeral.
Miller-Levander Funeral Home of St. Edward, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Gerald "Gary" Glen Ellis, son of Glen Howard and Irene Emily (Buske) Ellis, was born July 29, 1943 at San Louis Obispo, CA. He attended school, graduating from Clairemont High School. Gary entered the United States Navy on August 30, 1961, where he served until being honorably discharged on August 22, 1963. While in the Navy, Gary served as both a cook and a deckhand.
Gary was united in marriage to Suzanne Wingo on October 6, 1962 at San Diego, CA. Gary worked as a machinist and a cook while living in: Clairemont, CA; Pocahontas, IA; Joliet, IL; Leoti, KS; Gilmore City, IA; and St. Edward, NE.
He loved spending time at Lizard Lake with family and friends, and he had a special place in his heart for his dog Snickers.
Gary is survived by: his beloved baby girl Snickers; the mother of his children: Suzanne Pulkrabek of Eagle, NE; five children: Nona (Gary) Burch of Holcomb, KS; Christy (Tracy) Prothman of St. Edward, NE; Julie Kruse (Carl Umshler) of St. Edward, NE; John Ellis of Bovey, MN; James Ellis of Superior, WI; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Karen (Don) Weilert of Leoti, KS; Linda Ruby of Fort Dodge, IA; a very special great-niece: Ashley Weilert and her children of Topeka, KS; along with too many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother: Bob Ellis; and grandson: Alvin Burch.
